 | THE ANNUNCIATION At a certain moment in history, in a particular place on earth, God the Son was ‘made flesh’ in the womb of the Virgin Mary. A normal human being was chosen and prepared by God to be a uniquely holy woman, to be the Mother of God. She cherished, guarded and guided the infant Jesus with the help of Saint Joseph. ‘Here is a saying that you can rely on and nobody should doubt: that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners’ (1 Tim 1:15).  | CHRIST IS OUR BRIDGE TO HEAVEN Christ alone has bridged the gulf between earth and Heaven. By His Passion, Death, Resurrection and Ascension, he has made a sure path to the Godhead for all those who believe in Him. “I am the way, and the truth, and the life.  | CHRIST AMONGST HIS PEOPLE Christ promised to be with us always. In our day, He walks amongst us, present in the Church through the Scriptures, through his ordained ministers, through the community of the faithful, and supremely through the Sacrament of His Body and Blood. “And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age” (Mt 28:20).  | THIS IS MY BODY During the Mass, at the Consecration, the sacrifice of Christ is solemnly re-presented before us. It’s as though we are looking through a window into time, to Calvary, where Christ’s Virgin Mother stands at the foot of the Cross. With faith we can gaze upon the event which made possible our salvation. ‘When I am lifted up from the earth I shall draw all men to myself’ (Jn12:32). T-00059-OL |
 | THROUGH HIM, WITH HIM, IN HIM When we unite ourselves to Christ’s perfect sacrifice at Mass, we offer worthy praise, thanksgiving, and intercession to God our Father. We allow the Father to draw us close to Himself, through Christ, in the Spirit. ‘You, God has made members of Christ Jesus, and …he has become our wisdom, and our virtue, and our holiness, and our freedom’ (1 Cor 1:30).  | COMMUNION FOR THE SICK Holy Communion is brought to the sick and housebound. Christ is present, ‘whole and entire’, as the Eucharistic Minister holds up the Sacred Host. Our Risen Lord shares His Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity. “I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats of this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh” (Jn 6:51). T-01038b-OL |
 | THE SOUL, LIKE A CAVERN At first, those who look within their own soul to find God find darkness and clutter. Gradually they can lead lives more worthy of ‘children of God’, turning from sin to goodness. One day they discover that the ‘cavern’ of their soul is a peaceful place where they can ‘enter’ in prayer, confident that the light of Heaven will shine in. ‘Out of his infinite glory, may he give you the power, through his Spirit, for your hidden self to grow strong, so that Christ may live in your hearts through faith…until…you are filled with the utter fullness of God’ (Eph 3:16-19).  | THE FATHER’S TENDER TOUCH IN PRAYER God our Father is very close to us. The littlest prayer of ours is heard and rewarded with infinite love and tenderness, like a father stroking the neck of his precious child. “Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest….for I am gentle and humble in heart” (Mt 11:28-29).  | THE ABYSS: CLINGING BY FAITH TO A THREAD OF HOPE When we suffer deeply in body or mind or soul, it’s as if we hang over a terrifying abyss. Even if our faith is weak, we can still cling to a thread of hope, confident of God’s help. “But you have held back my life from the pit of destruction….The Lord will save me” (Is 38:17, 20).  | CONTEMPLATION Prayer is a gift from God. It is given to all who respond to Him and open their hearts to Him. If we give God first place in our lives, we allow Him to surprise us. Sometimes He reaches down to seize a soul, to draw her briefly up towards Heaven in contemplation. Here she experiences His love and radiance, His sweetness and joy. ‘Then when you call to me…I will listen to you. When you seek me you shall find me. When you seek me with all your heart I will let you find me’ (Jer 29:12-13). T-01406-OL |
 | THE HOLY TRINITY Christ is now in Heaven, where He holds out His hand to welcome His friends into the heart of the Holy Trinity. The Holy Spirit holds and loves the happy souls who have reached Heaven. The holy and majestic Father eternally embraces Christ His Son and the Holy Spirit, and He continues to call frail human beings to Himself. ‘He has taken us out of the power of darkness and created a place for us in the kingdom of the Son that he loves, and in him we gain our freedom, the forgiveness of our sins’ (Col 1:13-14).  | THE GLORY AND THE GATHERING Those who love Christ are united with Him and with each other – whether they live an earth, in purgatory, or in Heaven. Whenever we kneel in prayer we join the worship of this ‘Communion of Saints’. We long to share in the eternal fulfilment of Heaven, one in love with the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. “But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable angels in festal gathering, and to the assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven” (Heb 12:22-23).
