Mgr. Keith Barltrop & Catholic artist Elizabeth Wang speak at event 'Discovering the Face of Christ: a day of talks, prayer and art'

On September 13th, 100 people gathered for 'Discovering the Face of Christ: a day of talks, prayer and art'. Mgr. Keith Barltrop (Director of CASE, the Catholic Agency to Support Evangelisation) gave a talk 'Contemplating the Face of Christ' and Elizabeth Wang described her new multi-panelled painting of the Last Judgement as she spoke about 'The Great Drama of Salvation'.  A 9 x 12 foot reproduction of this painting was on display in the smaller of the two halls, together with an exhibition of other popular images by the artist. These were large prints on themes such as prayer, suffering, the Holy Eucharist, God's love, and the Blessed Virgin Mary. The time of talks, prayer and art in the Harpenden Public Halls was followed by a Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes church celebrated by Fr. Stephen Wang and Mgr. Keith Barltrop. The whole day encouraged those attending to imitate Christ in their daily lives, and to look ahead to the hope of eternal life with him.

Re-launch of the Radiant Light website

Work is going well on the new version of the Radiant Light website which will be launched in a few weeks time. We would be grateful for prayers for this work. At the moment the online Art Gallery has about 350 pictures by Elizabeth Wang. 30 of these are available as free high quality downloads, but the rest are low quality. We will be replacing all the current pictures with high quality versions, and will also be adding many other pictures, aiming to have over 600 pictures online at the re-launch. It will be possible for users to download these pictures in high quality. There will be no charge for non-commercial users who want to store and print the pictures for personal use or catechesis or evangelization.

Each picture will be given a title, a code, and about six keywords to improve the search facility. The keywords will enable people to search the pictures according to themes (e.g. forgiveness, Mass, saints, charity, Pentecost, Gospel, consecration), and will enable us to create online exhibitions according to subject matter. We hope to have a list of about 100 main topics which will be similar to the kind of topics you would find in a Catechism index (e.g. Holy Trinity, baptism, love, Church, Blessed Virgin Mary, justice, salvation, prayer, suffering, Holy Spirit, Heaven, grace, hope). If the user clicks on any of these, all of the pictures which are about these topics will appear in an online exhibition. They will appear in order of 'most viewed'. We hope that the new website will be a great resource for schools, parishes, groups involved in evangelisation, and for all those individuals who have been inspired by Radiant Light artwork. It will be a kind of visual catechism for a visual age, and it will include selections of new paintings on pro-life issues and on the Liturgy.
