Summer Exhibition
We have had to make the difficult decision not to have an exhibition of pictures this year at the French Church in London. This is because we are concentrating our energy and finances on a major day of talks and prayer on September 13th 2008 (see below), and also we are re-launching our website this Summer with 600 high quality free downloads of pictures by Elizabeth Wang, these free downloads will be available for use all around the world for non-commercial use such as evangelisation and catechesis. We are very grateful for the hospitality shown us by the French Church parish, and hope to have another exhibition there in the near future.
'Discovering the Face of Christ: A Radiant Light day of talks and prayer, together with an exhibition of new and well-known art by Elizabeth Wang'. With talks by Mgr. Keith Barltrop (Director of CASE) & Elizabeth Wang. Saturday September 13th 2008, in the Harpenden Public Halls, Harpenden, Herts; 25 mins by train from London, 5 miles from M1 Junction 10, and 8 miles from M25 Junction 21.
Entry free, all are welcome. This will be at Harpenden Public Halls, Southdown Rd, Harpenden, Herts, AL5 1PD from 11am – 2:30pm, followed by Holy Mass at 3pm in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Rothamsted Ave, Harpenden, Herts (please note, this Mass will be the Mass of the day, and will not be a Vigil Mass of Sunday; if you are a Catholic priest and would like to concelebrate please bring an alb and stole). Harpenden Public Halls are 5 mins from Harpenden train station which is 25 mins by fast train from London St Pancras. Trains also go from London Blackfriars, please check for engineering works. Speakers include artist Elizabeth Wang who will be speaking about her new painting of the Last Judgment and Salvation, a print of part of this picture will be on display in the hall, as well as other large prints. There will be coffee in the halls from 10:30am, please bring a packed lunch, or there are various shops nearby where you can buy a sandwich. This will the the 10th in a series of events organised by Radiant Light. Last September 160 people came to an enjoyable afternoon of talks and prayer in the French Church, London, where there was an exhibition of prints by Elizabeth Wang. The event this year will be held in Harpenden so that there is more space and time.
"It has often been said that the difficulty modern people have with faith is not so much about the arguments for or against it, but with the difficulty of imagining God's presence in our highly secularised world. The work of Radiant Light is a perfect answer to that problem. Elizabeth Wang's art helps us make "the longest journey", from head to heart, by picturing what this presence might be like in a variety of situations. Radiant Light thus continues the great tradition of the Church from earliest days in using contemporary art to instruct us about God's truth and attract us to his beauty, leading us on to heartfelt adoration and to awareness of his being with us and all people from moment to moment" Mgr Keith Barltrop, CASE. "I have been very impressed by the way Elizabeth Wang seeks to expand people's sense of the mystery of the Eucharist in all its dimensions" Fr Aidan Nichols, OP. Elizabeth Wang’s art can be viewed in the Radiant Light online Art Gallery at www.radiantlight.org.uk
Re-launch of the Radiant Light website
In Summer 2008 the Radiant Light website will be re-launched with about 600 high quality free downloads of pictures by Elizabeth Wang, these free downloads will be available for use all around the world for non-commercial use such as evangelisation and catechesis. Currently only a small amount of the online Art Gallery pictures are available as high quality downloads, and we hope that this re-launch will provide a kind of visual catechism for a visual age. It will include a new series of paintings by Elizabeth Wang on Pro-Life issues.
